For The Funeral...
The Best Things In Life Are Free!
Thankfully not everything costs extra, and there are many wonderful ways you can add special touches to a funeral without racking up extra bills.
Memories – it goes without saying that memories are exclusive to every individual. When you meet with your minister to arrange a service, share as much as you can and involve friends and family in the process. That way you will get the best out of your minister and enable them to create the best tribute possible.
Music – the most powerful way of communally connecting with friends and family. In a normal crematorium service it’s typical to select 3 pieces of music (start, middle, end) but there are no restrictions other than time.
TOP TIP!
If you are struggling to limit the number of songs you select, you could make a separate playlist to have at the reception afterwards, or to share via apps like spotify.
Dress code – we often hear people tell us that they don’t want everyone wearing black to their funeral. Simply welcoming colour or having a dress code can be a good way for everyone to participate in their own individual way e.g. wear something pink, wear football shirts.
Flowers – whilst it is typical to purchase a floral tribute, it is less typical but arguably more meaningful to either not have flowers at all, or to go and pick them yourselves e.g. from the garden of the deceased.
Donations – a great way to offer something to a cause that has either played a part in the life of the individual or reflects their passions/interests.
Funeral Stationary
Funeral stationary describes printed keepsakes such as booklets or leaflets which are handed out at a funeral. These can be functional or a keepsake. For example, if you are having a church service you might require a booklet with an order of service and hymn lyrics. Or, if you are having a non-religious service, a booklet with photos and words to commemorate the deceased can create a meaningful keepsake. At Go As You Please our designer, Derek, creates these to your exact specifications and requirements.
Folded keepsake booklet (single/double sheet) £2.00/£2.50.
TOP TIP!
Using photos creates a keepsake that people will pick up and look at for many years to come. Listing the days events doesn’t!
Alternative Transportation
This can refer to alternative transportation of the deceased or the family. We have all heard of the traditional hearse and limousine combination, but there are other options.
Instead of a hearse how about… A horse and carriage? A motorcycle and sidecar? A tractor? A builders van?
Instead of limousines how about… A vintage London bus?
These options generally require use of a third party, so please contact us for a quote. If you have any ideas of your own we will always do our best to help make it happen.
TOP TIP!
We can help you to use a vehicle of your own as an alternative to a hearse!
Flowers
The beauty of flowers is something we are all accustomed to seeing at a funeral. From the simplest bunch to the most extravagant spray. From lettering to sculpted designs and floral garlands on our natural wicker coffins. We work with a select few trusted partners who supply us with floral tributes if you would like to purchase flowers via ourselves.
Simple floral garland on a wicker coffin – complimentary with any funeral that includes a wicker coffin.
Coffin spray (3ft/4ft/5ft) – £100/£125/£150 (special requests e.g. lilies or roses, price on request).
Letters – £40 each (with coloured ribbon and corsage).
Artificial 4ft coffin spray rental – £40 (select country garden, red roses or white lilies).
TOP TIP!
Why not have friends and family chip in for a larger more impressive display? You could also take it to the reception afterwards to enjoy, and distribute individual stems to people as a token!
Funeral Venue Extras
This includes additional chargeable services offered by ourselves or our local crematoria. They are all services which could help to enhance and personalise the service depending on your individual circumstances. Examples of these services are:
Extra time at the crematoria – ideal for larger groups or if you would like more time for music and readings (prices typically start at £150).
Live webcasts of the service – perfect for if you have friends and family abroad or who can’t attend (prices typically start at £50).
Slide shows – great for adding a more personal element to the service (£30 at Go As You Please Chapels).
After The Funeral...
Ashes Containers
Ashes are returned to us and in turn to you, in an “eco-urn”. This is basically a perfectly pleasant and functional cardboard box. The ashes are inside in a biodegradable plastic bag. Depending on what your plans are for ashes you may wish to upgrade to something a little more special.
Scatter Tube – cardboard tubes in a variety of lovely designs which ashes can be stored in ready to scatter if desired (or if not!). They come in a variety of sizes so that the ashes can be split up if desired. Small/medium/large £20/£25/£30.
Ashes Urn – an oak effect wooden box in a traditional style finished off with a nameplate – £75.
Other alternatives – there are so many different options out there so if you would like us to help source something then please let us know.
TOP TIP!
Instead of purchasing a new container for ashes, why not use something you already have like a teapot!
Keepsakes and Jewellery
We work with a variety of local craftspeople as well as larger companies like ‘Ashes to Glass’ to offer a wide range of keepsakes and jewellery:
Teddy bears made from personal items e.g. clothes.
Custom jewellery containing ashes.
Fingerprint jewellery (we need to know about this prior to cremation).
Masonry
Please contact us if you would like further information or a quote on masonry items such as gravestones, kerbstones and inscribed plaques.
Seven Penny Meadow
Whilst Seven Penny Meadow is a natural environment, we appreciate that people also like to mark their loved one’s plot or commemorate them in some way. We allow 3 eco-conscious methods of gravemarking/memorial:
Plant A Tree
We allow native varieties and trees which will be happy in a woodland setting. We normally recommend that you tell us what you would like then we can let you know if that’s OK. Most tree varieties are planted whilst they are dormant in the colder months from October to March. We will only plant trees when it is best for the health and survival of the tree. It is not advisable to plant trees on double depth plots until both burials have taken place.
Prices from £110 depending on type and size.
Place A plaque
We allow 9”x9” gravemarker plaques which are displayed flush to the ground. We only allow plaques supplied by us.
Sandstone plaque (max 30 letters) £220.
Slate plaque (max 30 letters) £220 (green or grey slate).
Slate mounted on sandstone plaque (max 30 letters) £280 (green or grey slate).
Additional lettering and images are also available.
Sponsor A Bench
To meet the demand for people wanting a memorial bench, we now have shared memorial benches (currently just one at the bottom of the field). Inscribed 6”x3” brass plaques are available via ourselves to display as memorials on these benches. The fee charged purchases your brass plaque and also contributes to the cost of the bench.
Brass memorial plaque £200 (max 150 letters)
